Bourbon

Also Borbón, Red Bourbon, Bourbon Vermelho

Bourbon is the second founding lineage of cultivated arabica. It descends from plants the French grew on the island of Bourbon (now Réunion) in the early 1700s and reached Brazil in the 1860s, spreading from there across Latin America and, via mission gardens, into East Africa. Compared with Typica it has denser secondary branching, shorter internodes, usually green young leaves and higher yields, with somewhat smaller seeds. Like Typica it is fully susceptible to leaf rust, which is why most modern varieties are derived from it rather than planted as such.
