Guatemala

Guatemala's national coffee association Anacafé has defined eight producing regions by climate, soil and cup, five of them volcanic. Almost all production is shade-grown washed arabica, much of it Strictly Hard Bean from above 1,350 m, and remote regions such as Huehuetenango require farms to mill their own coffee. The harvest stretches from about November to April depending on altitude.

Character and protected names

Flavour tendencies

Guatemalan coffees typically combine chocolate and toffee sweetness with a crisp citric or malic acidity; Antigua is the smoother, sweeter benchmark, while Huehuetenango is the most fruit-forward and Atitlán adds nutty-chocolate depth with lemony brightness.

General tendencies from importer origin notes, not a promise about any lot. The claims behind them are listed with their sources at the foot of the page.
