Typica

Also Típica, Arabigo, Criollo, Sumatra

Typica is one of the two founding lineages of cultivated arabica outside Ethiopia and Yemen. Its line runs from Yemen through Dutch plantings in Southeast Asia to a single plant in the Amsterdam botanical garden, from which the Caribbean and Latin American coffee industries were seeded in the 1720s. The tree is tall with bronze young leaves, large seeds and a cup that growers still regard as a quality benchmark, but it yields modestly and has no resistance to coffee leaf rust.
