Icatu

Also Icatu Vermelho, Icatu Amarelo, Icatu Precoce

Icatu is IAC's own interspecific route to rust resistance: a tetraploidised robusta was crossed with Bourbon and the progeny backcrossed to Mundo Novo, producing tall, vigorous trees with incomplete, race-non-specific rust resistance (the Mex-1 locus is one of the characterised factors). Red, yellow and early-ripening lines exist and Icatu is itself used as a resistance donor in Brazilian breeding, including the Catucaí family.

Independent of the Timor Hybrid; resistance sources derived from Icatu and the Mex-1 locus are used in Brazilian programmes.
