Starmaya

Starmaya is the first arabica F1 hybrid that can be multiplied by seed rather than by tissue culture. It crosses a male-sterile Ethiopian-derived clone (CIR-SM01) with the Sarchimor line Marsellesa in seed gardens under natural pollination. In Nicaraguan trials it out-yielded Marsellesa and Caturra, produced larger beans and scored 80 to 83 points at the higher elevations against 73 to 79 for Caturra. Rust incidence was around 15 percent in the field and some off-types occur, so it is not fully resistant.
