Ateng

Also Ateng Super, Ateng Jaluk, Ateng Pucuk Merah, Ateng Janda

Ateng is the Sumatran farmers' name for Catimor-type trees that spread through Aceh and North Sumatra after leaf rust destroyed the Typica and S-line plantings; the name is said to come from a famously short Indonesian comedian. Several farmer selections exist, of which Ateng Super is recognised in Gayo research for high yield potential (0.9 to 1.8 tonnes per hectare), larger beans and early fruiting, although its yield fluctuates between years.
