Robusta (cultivated Coffea canephora, Congolese SG2 group)

Also Robusta, Coffea robusta, Congolese robusta

Robusta is the trade name for cultivated Coffea canephora, which supplies roughly 40 percent of the world's coffee. Genetically it belongs to the Congolese group (subgroup SG2) of a species whose wild diversity splits into Congolese and Guinean populations. Congolese-type trees are tall with large internodes and little secondary branching, late-ripening, drought-sensitive, heavy-seeded and resistant to leaf rust, with caffeine roughly double that of arabica. National programmes in Uganda, Côte d'Ivoire, Indonesia, India, Vietnam and Brazil have released clonal and seed varieties.
