Colombia

Also Variedad Colombia

Variedad Colombia was the first rust-resistant variety released by Cenicafé, delivered in the early 1980s before rust had even reached Colombia. It is a composite ('multiline') of many Caturra x Timor Hybrid 1343 progenies that differ in their resistance genes while sharing stature, productivity and bean quality, a strategy chosen so that a new rust race cannot defeat the whole field at once. Three decades later it was still resistant, which Cenicafé cites as proof of the approach. Cenicafé reports its cup quality as indistinguishable from Typica and Bourbon.
