SNI 01-2907-2008 defect-value grades (Mutu 1-6)
Indonesia's national standard SNI 01-2907-2008 grades green coffee purely on physical defects: a 300 g sample is scored with weighted defect values and placed into Mutu 1 to Mutu 6, with 4 split into 4a and 4b. Export names such as 'Sumatra Grade 1' or 'Sulawesi Grade 1' refer to this ladder (Grade 1 being 11 or fewer defect points), while cup quality is assessed separately. The system replaced the older 'OVEIP' colour-based classification.

How it is measured
Screen sizes
- Trade descriptions add screen or size class (e.g. Sumatra Grade 1 large bean) but the SNI grade itself is defect-based
Defects per 300 g
Each defect carries a weight (black bean 1, partly black 0.5, broken black 0.5, whole cherry 1, brown bean 0.25 and so on); the weights are summed to a defect value. General requirements: no live insects, no mould or off odour, moisture 12.5% maximum, non-coffee matter 0.5% maximum.
