Stenophylla (Coffea stenophylla, highland coffee of Sierra Leone)
Also Highland coffee, Narrow-leaf coffee, Sierra Leone coffee
Coffea stenophylla was farmed and exported from Sierra Leone in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, described as early as 1834 as a superior-tasting coffee with black rather than red fruit, then abandoned in favour of robusta. Rediscovered in the wild in 2018, it grows at a mean annual temperature about 6 degrees above arabica's and in 2021 blind panels judged its cup arabica-like, making it a candidate climate-resilient crop. It is not yet a cultivated variety at scale.
