S.274 (Sln.1R) and Indian robusta selections
Also Sln.1R, Sln.2R (BR 9/10/11), Sln.3R (CxR), CxR
S.274 (Selection 1R) is the foundation Indian robusta, a seedling progeny of two high-yielding mother trees that yields 2,000 to 2,500 kg/ha under irrigation with medium beans and good cup quality. Sln.2R (clones BR 9, 10, 11) improved cup and bean size, and in the 1970s Sln.3R, the compact 'CxR' derived from a Coffea congensis x canephora cross backcrossed to canephora, added bush stature and early, uniform bearing. The Coffee Board lists Peridenia, S.274 and CxR as the main robusta varieties of Karnataka's low-elevation zones.
